Why Believe in Astrology?

Now that you know a little bit about the ancient lore of studying the stars, you may still be asking yourself, “Why should I believe this stuff?” Ask yourself that question again, after you check out these AstroFacts:

  • In 1798, Goethe wrote that astrology is connected with the true sense of poetry, or “some vast cosmic unity.” He believed that the “heavenly bodies” had a great and decisive influence on the weather and plant life.

  • Astrology was practiced as a noble art among scholarly men during the Renaissance, and was even offered at college alongside art, science, theology, poetry, architecture, business and politics. It was considered a “highly intellectual pursuit,” and students had to learn to read Latin, Greek and sometimes a third language to interpret charts; they also had to know math well to chart the positions of the planets. Synchronicity

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2007

If you have ever experienced a time when something going on in your mind coincided strangely with something that happened in the physical world, then you have experienced synchronicity. You suddenly think about someone; the phone rings and they’re on the other end. You dream about someone you haven’t seen in years, and discover that they just died. You hear a name that you’ve never heard before, and suddenly you’re hearing it everywhere. You have an idea that you’ve never thought before, and suddenly that idea is everywhere. Feng Shui

Feng Shui is the art of living in harmony with your physical surroundings. An ancient Chinese philosophy, the term “feng shui” means “wind and water”. The original idea in ancient China was that it was nice to live in a house with hills behind you to shield you from wind, and with a stream or some sort of running water in front of your house. The Chinese felt that people who lived with “feng shui” were much more likely to be happy and prosperous.

Ch’i

The practice of feng shui involves creating and maintaining an environment that promotes and enhances the flow of ch’i. Ch’i is the lifeforce that exists in all living things. Positive ch’i is created whenever there is beauty or something is done well. Negative ch’i is created when there is clutter, ugliness, or things are done poorly. Positive energy and harmony with the world are created when we keep our home full of fresh air and light, and don’t neglect any portion of it. Feng shui believes that neglecting part of your home will encourage the flow of negative ch’i in that part of the house, and that the corresponding part of your life will suffer. Shakespeare and Astrology

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2007

Think of King Lear, who sinned knowingly and scoffed at the stars. Or Prospero in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, who defied the stars and then used them to his benefit. The “star-cross’d” Romeo believed the poison from the apothecary was the only thing that would “shake the yoke of inauspicious stars” from his “world-wearied flesh.” And Anthony, in Julius Caesar, attributed his first defeat to the fact that the stars had forsaken him, blaming the moon’s eclipse for his ultimate fall.
In all of Shakespeare’s 37 plays there are more than a hundred allusions to astrology, and many of his characters’ actions are said to be favored or hindered by the stars. The signs of the zodiac are mentioned in six of Shakespeare’s plays, and the planets may even be blamed for disasters, especially as they wander from their spheres. Several of Shakespeare’s characters were governed by particular stars, as Posthumous was born under the benevolent planet Jupiter, and thus had a favorable destiny at the end of the play. Another character, Monsieur Parolles, was born under Mars and became known fittingly as a soldier. The moon–known for its influence on emotions and self-image–was said to govern Elizabeth, who wept throughout the play Richard III. These examples and many other astrological passages scattered throughout his dramatic works show that Shakespeare was at least interested in astrology and used the art abundantly in the creation of some of his most striking passages. He probably did this because it would have an appeal to the Elizabethan audience at the time. Whether he had a sincere interest in astrology is unknown. Read the rest of this entry »

Jung and Astrolgy

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2007

“How much is lost through disbelief!”

–Heraclitus

Carl G. Jung believed that there is an indisputable connection between our minds and our bodies. Most people today would agree with that assessment. Our bodies affect our minds, and our minds affect our bodies. Our external situation affects our bodies, which affects our minds, and vice versa.

Taking it a step further, he believed that we affect our physical environment, and that ultimately, we affect the solar system. The solar system affects us, we affect the solar system. Our lives are not “caused” by the stars - the stars do not initiate anything, but there is an ongoing two-way relationship between ourselves and the stars.

Taking it another step further, he believed that the singleness of the solar system paralleled the singleness of human experience, and that “we are one.” That there is a single external world, and a single internal world. The single internal world is not accessible by our conscious selves, rather it exists in the unconscious mind. He believed that each person’s unconscious mind contains not only personal unconscious, but at a deeper level contains collective material that in inherited - the “collective unconscious.” Jung felt that we can learn a lot about the human psyche through astrology, not only because the stars and planets are an external reflection of our inner selves, but also because the inherently symbolic nature of astrology allows us to consciously correlate symbols with unconscious knowledge. Jung felt that astrology is a language of symbols that mediates between levels of consciousness. Read the rest of this entry »

Natal Chart

Posted by admin on June 5th, 2007

What is a natal chart?

In astrology, your natal chart (sometimes called birth
chart) is a graph that shows the positions of the planets
and astrological houses in the sky at the moment of
your birth.

How is my natal chart different from my horoscope?

Your natal chart is much more detailed and accurate than
your horoscope. A popular horoscope considers only the
position of the Sun, whereas your natal chart includes
hundreds of pieces of data. Mark Twain once said: “The
difference between a good word and the right word is like
the difference between fire and firefly.” Similarly, your
popular horoscope may hold some hints of truth, but your
natal chart tells us the real story of your natural personality.

What can my natal chart show me?

Analyzing the planetary positions and relationships in your
natal chart affords a remarkably profound and revealing
glimpse into your natural character, with its inherent
strengths and weaknesses. Among other things, your natal
chart will tell you: A) what type of partner and relationship
you seek and will be best matched with, B) what type of
job or career your natural strengths and weaknesses are
best suited for, and C) obstacles that need to be overcome
in your life. Most importantly, your natal chart will help
you to understand your desires, motivations, and why you
are the way that you are.

Why do you need my exact time and place of birth to calculate my natal chart?

For a natal chart to be accurate, we must know the exact
positions of the stars at the exact moment of your birth.
Since the houses of the zodiac revolve one degree every
four minutes, an accurate time of birth is necessary to
determine your Ascendant sign and some planetary
aspects. Although we can generate a natal chart without
these highly time-sensitive positions included, we’d much
rather give you the more accurate chart that is generated
with an exact time and place of birth.

Psychic Readings

Try free psychic readings online

Psychic readings are performed by various psychics and clairvoyants. A psychic is said to be someone with a special ability or gift to see the future or past, communicate with spirits, read minds (through telepathy) or effect matter somehow. Specific supernatural abilities vary from psychic to psychic.

Psychic readings are similar to astrology readings done by astrologers except the reading is not based on the stars but on the psychic’s feelings and impressions. Some psychics use tarot cards to help them perform their readings. Below are some sites that offer free and paid psychic readings:

Keen - offers live psychic readings, astrology readings and horoscopes. They offer a free initial reading. They have a wide variety of psychics, astrologers and clairvoyants to choose from.
